Project FACES is a multi-layered portrait series exploring the personal stories and unique expressions of diverse individuals. Combining candid interviews with both black-and-white and color photography, the project captures faces and emotions in their most honest and vulnerable states. Each participant answers tailored questions that reflect their personality, while the photographic component highlights both simplicity and eccentricity through 35mm film and digital mediums. The goal is to honor the present moment and the beauty of self-expression, creating a body of work that is intimate, youthful, and full of life.
Challenges
The primary challenge was encouraging participants to fully embrace and reveal their authentic selves, including emotions they might typically hide. Balancing the intimacy of interviews with the visual complexity of portraiture required careful attention to both timing and environment, as well as maintaining consistency across different shooting formats (film and digital). Additionally, capturing vulnerability without intrusion demanded a sensitive, trusting approach between photographer and subject.
