Project overview

HUES is an exploration of color as emotion, identity, and atmosphere. Rather than functioning as an ornament, color becomes a narrative force, shaping mood, amplifying presence, and revealing the quiet power held in contrast. Each image is composed with intention, allowing skin tones, textiles, and light to interact as equal elements within the frame. The series embraces depth over uniformity, highlighting how individuality exists in nuance. Saturation and shadow work together to create tension and softness, while styling choices echo the complexity of self-expression, layered, lived-in, and unapologetically personal. Nothing is flattened, nothing is neutral. At its core, HUES celebrates color as a lived experience. It resists simplification, honoring the way tone carries memory, confidence, and emotion. This is a study in presence, where every shade holds weight, and every subject exists fully in their own spectrum.

Challenges

Bringing HUES to life required balancing many moving parts at once. I managed five models, including myself, while coordinating the full set, pacing, and creative direction in real time. Staying present both in front of and behind the camera demanded constant awareness, from maintaining the energy of the group to ensuring every detail stayed aligned with the vision. Working in semi-cold weather added another layer of complexity, requiring efficiency and care so no momentum was lost. Despite these challenges, the shoot remained focused and intentional, finishing on schedule without compromising the integrity of the work. The experience reaffirmed my ability to lead with clarity, adaptability, and trust in my process, even when conditions aren’t perfect.

Results

The final result of HUES is a striking, cohesive series that translates intentional direction into powerful visual storytelling. Each image maintains a distinct sense of identity while contributing to a unified narrative shaped by color, texture, and mood. Through clear leadership and thoughtful collaboration, the shoot delivered elevated imagery on schedule, proving that precision and adaptability can coexist with creative depth. HUES stands as a compelling example of contemporary editorial work that is both visually bold and emotionally grounded.
